Hi, I'm Carla Della Beffa, a visual and relational artist from Milan, Italy.
I recently started writing very short stories, which I mix with images. The new research produced a book, an exhibition and some other projects.
My work is about connecting and sharing: experience, knowledge, ideas, people, emotions.
For years I have seen the world through economy, like a pair of eyeglasses, and making videos, photographs, a workshop and a book with an Italian economist. Before that phase, my focus was on food, its value as a symbol, how it influences every aspect of the world.
Constancy of change is the key of my art.
I started painting in 1993, just before being made redundant by the international advertising agency where I was creative director, and as a painter I have had my fair share of exhibitions. I discovered the Internet in 1996: slow modems inspired technologically simple, award-winning net-art and website.
I went on to digital photography, published books on my art and other topics. My videos and photos have been shown at art galleries and international festivals. I am currently working on a new project commissioned by the 50th Premio Suzzara, 2018.
My family name, Della Beffa, means jest. I have been involved in social and feminist issues, singing at friends' marriages, living through a marriage of my own, reading everything printed, essays, chick-lit and cook books included. Sooner or later, all experiences resurface and become elements of my work. I love red wine but not pasta, unlike your typical Italian, and rarely drink coffee.
