La Cucina ItalianaTraces of an event online, 2000
I got an email from a friend, Luke Duncalfe, inviting me to a solo exhibition in the Window online gallery of the university of Auckland NZ. I wanted something Italian enough, but not overly touristic. Pizza, spaghetti... Italian food is loved everywhere, but sometimes its origins aren't acknowledged, and people abroad don't know how to pronounce their names: I worked with photos and phonetics and collected the results in a digital print book. This series about food is entirely visual, but also mostly about sounds. Try to hear them in your mind while you browse and you'll have a taste of Italy. During the exhibition, a new image appeared every night at dinner time, and the previous one disappeared into the archive. It might still be there. |
